August 13th, 1859 -- Kept the bottom road and found it excellent good travelling, little or no dust, and good feed, made 13 miles and took dinner, then three miles on and we got into the other road. Six miles further and we again left the river road, and travelled another three miles, and then camped in good feed, close by some mule teams which had just crossed from the other side and had got every thing in their wagons completely soaked. Saw several black-tailed hares today.

Powell
Travelled 20 miles. We have had good road for 2 days. The water grows worse as we proceqd down. Alkali is very bad on this river, but the grass is large and the slews are dried up so that itjd'n't hurt stalk.
